WHO WE ARE
Established in 2004, Alternative Mechanical, LLC was started by two partners, Kevin Fahl and Richard Ortega. Richard retired in the fall of 2012 and now Kevin oversees a company of highly skilled and professional building tradesmen. Their ranks include many licensed Plumbers, Pipe Fitters, HVAC Technicians, and Certified Medical Gas Installers. These teams of mechanical installation technicians are led by some extraordinary people and they are;
Owner, Estimator and Project Manager
Kevin has over 35 years of experience in the Piping Trades. With over 25 years in the field as a certified nuclear grade welder, Kevin has acquired a special mix of hands on practical experience and detailed operational skills. Kevin is also a Journeyman Pipe Fitter, a licensed Plumbing and Mechanical Contractor, and carries an unlimited Boiler Installer license. Driven by the desire to exceed expectations, Kevin leads his company by example and by living
“the harder we work the luckier we get” attitude. Pride and persistence have been the peers of his success. He likes to say that, “If I'm considered successful it is only because I have surrounded myself with successful people”, and when you get to know Alternative Mechanical you will see that he has done just that.
Senior Field Superintendent
Mark is a licensed Journeyman Plumber and Master Plumber. Mark heads up many of our largest and most intricate projects. Mark is our Health Care specialist and has successfully completed very involved projects for the biggest names in health care in West Michigan: Spectrum Health, St. Mary’s Trinity Health, and Metropolitan Hospitals just to name a few. Mark’s expertise is invaluable when we are engaged with a remodel within an ongoing healthcare facility. His attention to detail and his understanding of the critical need for micro-coordination in the intense environment of Health Care, is literally a matter of life and death for everyone involved.
Office Operations Manger
Paige brings over 20 years of Bookkeeping and Accounting experience to Alternative Mechanical. Paige oversees all of the daily operations in the offices of Alternative Mechanical, but her responsibilities don’t end there. Affectionately referred to as our “Office Mom”, Paige takes care of everything that makes the Alternative Machine run: Human resources, insurance, licensing and certifications, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, project engineer including submittals, monthly certified billings, close out documentation, and a list of many other things that no one knows about because Paige just takes care of them. Paige is invaluable to the inner workings of Alternative Mechanical. If you need anything, start with Paige. It’s a good chance she’s in charge of it.
Charlie works part time for AltMech as she attends Grand Valley State University. Charlie is majoring in Psychology which is a good fit for working around here. Charlie assists Paige with data entry, filing, and general light bookkeeping. One of Charlie’s major responsibilities is scheduling the ongoing work that we do for the City of Grand Rapids' Footing Drain Disconnection Program. We work with hundreds of home owners, and Charlie handles all of the scheduling, permitting, and coordinating for the various locations around the City.
